Offshore Adventure - Abbey Road

Six Days / Five Nights

The Offshore Adventures are six-day sailing trips designed to create more competent, confident sailors. Improve your sailing skills and experience night sailing, standing watches and sailing offshore in varying weather conditions.

Location

Departing Pikes Bay Marina

Description

Under the command of a licensed captain, six trainees will actively participate in the operation of the ship. They will live, cook, eat and sleep on board the Abbey Road while exploring Lake Superior. By the end of a voyage they will know the fundamentals of how to sail a 60' schooner.

What to Expect::

Everyone is involved in planning the passage. The captain will review navigation procedures, use of charts, dead reckoning, radar, and GPS in an easy to understand and relaxed environment. This exciting adventure covers over 200 nautical miles (weather depending) with destinations such as Isle Royale National Park, the Keweenaw Peninsula, and/or Grand Marais, MN.

We have room for 6 trainees over the age of 18, (or 13 and over accompanied by a parent or guardian)  who are willing to stand watch, tend the sails, and steer by the stars as we transit Lake Superior overnight and explore distant shores.  We recommend that you have some prior sailing experience to prepare for this long-distance cruise.

You may board the Abbey Road any time after 7 pm the night before the trip, and we may depart that evening if conditions are favorable.    We expect to be back in Bayfield before 4 pm on the last day

Minimum Crew
As these voyages require crew to sail overnight on watch, we require a minimum of four trainees on each trip.  If a trip is undersold, we may ask trainees to transfer to a different sailing date.  If a trip sells out, we may add additional availabilities.

Our Cancelation Policy

We sail under most weather conditions except for those that are deemed unsafe, such as thunder/lightning, sheeting rain, and/or extremely high winds, so please check the forecast the day of your sail and be sure to dress for the weather.  We do not cancel sails based on weather forecasts, so cancellations usually occur the day of the scheduled sail, although we make every effort to provide as much notice as possible.

If the weather looks questionable, you may call 262-422-0607 to check on the status of your sail. In case of a weather-related cancellation, you will be contacted by a crew member at the cell phone number you provided.

Should we cancel a trip due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances , you may elect a full refund or have your reservation transferred to another sail of your choosing as availability allows.

Please let us know as soon as possible if you made a reservation and need to cancel or reschedule your sail.  If you cancel more than 72 hours (3 days) prior to the start of your scheduled trip, we will be happy to offer a full refund, less the 8% booking and credit card transaction fees.  If you cancel less than 72 hours prior to your scheduled trip, we can reschedule you for a future sail, or provide a gift card for the amount that was paid.

If you fail to show up or are late arriving at the dock prior to the scheduled departure time, you will be considered a No Show and your ticket is non-refundable.
