The Tour
Obidos is a place of ancient legends and miracles. Enter through the walls of the most romantic village in Portugal and experience some of what it was like to live in medieval times. This beautiful medieval village is a fine example of a traditional, Portuguese walled town. There is lots to see here, starting at the Porta de Vila, the main gateway into the town. Through a bustling street, lined with shops selling crafts and gift items, is the main street of Obidos. It leads to the Igreja de Santa Maria and Praca de Santa Maria, a beautiful religious building and the main church of Obidos is positioned in a quaint, picturesque square before leaving on up the hill to the castle. Next you will visit the spellbinding, gothic Monastery of Alcobaça where you will learn of some gripping stories. Gothic, impressive and spellbinding monastery. This Roman Catholic monastic complex was founded in the 12th century by King Alfonso. The monastery was one of Europe's most important monasteries during the monastic age and a centre of religious study and worship for around 1,000 monks. Nazare in Portugal is now known for its big wave surfing but this small coastal town has a traditional fishing community. Support local by tasting fresh fish specialities such as grilled sardines and caldeirada at any of the excellent local restaurants. End the day at the famous lighthouse to watch the sunset over the ocean.

Nazare
Once a productive fishing town, Nazare is full of cobbled streets and quaint buildings. You may still see some fishing traditions, such as the wives of the fisherman wearing traditional dress. Travel on up the Funicular, a century-old mode of public transport connecting the centre of Nazare to the village Sitio, on top of the hill. As you can imagine the views are amazing. Check out the Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Nazare, a beautiful church with a famous wooden carving of the black Madonna breastfeeding the baby Jesus. Nearby is the Forte de Sao Miguel, where you will find the famous lighthouse, pictured in all the photos of Nazare´s big wave surfing with a cool surf museum inside the fort.

Reviews of Obidos, Alcobaça & Nazare

Marina from Finland, Google Review
"We had an amazing time on a private tour to Obidos, Alcobaça & Nazare with Classic Portugal. It's a nice day tour from Lisbon with not too much driving and a reasonable amount of time in each location. Our guide was Gonçalo - knowledgeable and easy to talk with, he also gave us great tips on a local bakery and restaurant."

Vero from Florida, TripAdvisor Review
“My sister and I absolutely loved taking this private tour. Our guide Gonçalo was AMAZING! Very knowledgeable about the history, friendly and very outgoing. He let us take our time with pics, pace and overall time which we truly enjoyed and appreciated. Private tours are definitely better than group tours since we have more one and one with your guide. We definitely would have not had the same experience as we did had we done a group one. I recommended this tour to anyone, the views of these locations were spectacular and hopefully you get fortunate enough to have Gonçalo as your tour guide. Truly a wonder individual. Cheers and happy touring!!”
