Valladolid is a city on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Ekʼ Balam ek-bælæm is a Yucatec Maya archaeological site within the municipality of Temozón, Yucatán, Mexico. It is located in the northern Maya lowlands, 25 kilometers (16 miles) north of Valladolid and 56 kilometers (35 miles) northeast of Chichén Itzá. From the Preclassic to the Postclassic, it was the seat of a Mayan kingdom. The site is notable for the preservation of plaster in the tomb of Ukit Kan Lek Tokʼ, a king buried in the side of the largest pyramid.
