Become a Scooter/DPV Diving Instructor

Expand your resume and diversity by teaching other divers how to make the most of their bottom time and have more fun on their dives, by being able to teach the underwater scooter or diver propulsion vehicle (DPV) diving course.

In this underwater scooter and DPV course, you will teach the skills and concepts a diver needs to safely plan and conduct dives using scooters or DPVs. You will teach the divers about the special precautions needed for using DPVs, how to maintain buddy contact and how to control their equipment, so they can safely enjoy the new dive experiences DPVs provide.

Upon completion of this program, you will earn the SSI Scooter/DPV Diving Instructor specialty certification and be able to teach divers to use their equipment on dives up to 30 meters/100 feet deep with a scooter or DPV.

Certification Methods:

Seminar:

Minimum Instructor Rating: An active status Assistant Instructor Trainer, certified as an instructor in the applicable specialty, may conduct the seminar.
Requirements For Completion: Successfully complete the Specialty Instructor Seminar as outlined in the instructor manual for the Specialty Instructor program.

Note: No proof of logged dives is required for this method.

Co-Teaching:

Minimum Instructor Rating: The candidate may co-teach the applicable specialty program with an active status Specialty Instructor who is certified to teach that specialty.
Requirements For Completion: Successfully co-teach at least one complete specialty program as outlined in the instructor manual for the Specialty Instructor program.
Have at least ten (10) logged dives in the applicable specialty.

Verification Application:

Minimum Instructor Rating: Assistant Instructors may apply for the applicable specialty program.
Requirements For Completion: Have at least 20 logged dives in the applicable specialty
Complete the applicable student materials, including digital learning, review questions and final exam, or provide proof of an equivalent certification.

Cancellation Policy

Scheduled Divers:

Failure to arrive Scheduled time will result in No-Show cancellation.
Failure to Provide Proper Certification information may result in cancellation if proof cannot be found within the scheduled timeframe.
Failure to prove self-sufficiency prior to dives (gear setup) may result in cancellation of dives due to lack of necessary beginner skills, this is up to the discretion of our Dive Center Manager.

Tank'd Pro Dive Center Utila is known for providing the uppermost customer service in Utila and ensuring each diver is kept as safe as possible. If any of the above criteria is met, we will be forced to cancel your dives, resulting in a zero refund policy as you have taken the space for another possible diver to join. No-Shows for scheduled dives will also be considered cancellations and no refunds will be processed.
